Some of the ways include hunting, animal testing, fur trading, use of animals in sports, factory farming, and use of animals for entertainment purposes. Some ways of showing cruelty towards animals are termed as active cruelty in which a person or a group of people intentionally hurts an animal. For example, there is a game played in Spain in which a person fights with a bull and tortures the bull until death. This is a very unpleasant and cruel behavior towards animals. To eliminate such behaviors and other forms of cruelty, animal rights activists raise their voice. This is the most intense degree of animal cruelty, which needs to be taken seriously not only by the animal rights activists but also by the government of such countries where such incidents occur.Let us take another example of animal cruelty. It is a fact that a dairy cow must give birth frequently in order to be able to produce milk. In today’s farming industry, the dairy cows are made pregnant by artificial insemination so that they are able to give birth every year. The duration of pregnancy for a cow is the same as humans, that is, nine months. Thus, giving birth every year is a very tiresome job for a cow. Moreover, in some countries, people give special drugs to their cows and goats that make these animals produce milk much more than they can produce naturally. Although, use of such drugs makes cows produce more milk, they adversely affect the mental and physical health of cows. When the production of milk is greater than the quantity of calcium made in the cows’ body, it causes calcium deficiency. In addition, these cows are also slaughtered for human consumption just when they reach the age of 2 to 3 years. Zoo animals are another example of the violation of animal rights. In some countries, there is no proper management of zoological parks and animals are not given proper diet that they need to remain healthy. This is an extreme violation of animal rights because people earn money through animals that they keep under custody but do not give required attention towards their diet and health. In natural environments, animals are free to eat their desired food but when they are kept in zoos, they do not feel free and this affects their eating habits too. Animals are also used to transport heavy luggage from one place to another. Animals are animals, they cannot say no to their owners and even if they show some resistance due to weakness, their owners beat them and forcefully make them carry heavy loads. Misconceptions of African American life â€Å"When you control a man's thinking you do not have to worry about his actions. You do not have to tell him not to stand here or go yonder. He will find his "proper place" and will stay in it. You do not need to send him to the back door. He will go without being told. In fact, if there is no back door, he will cut one for his special benefit. His education makes it necessary.† This quote, spoken true by a prominent African American scholar of the 20th century, Carson Woodson, is aimed at shedding light on the inherent miseducation of African Americans. His beliefs that controlling one’s thinking with such a powerful grasp that allows little or no movement will lead to that individual behaving as he is expected is a very justifiable point. If time and time again, one is told to do certain things or believe certain things as â€Å"right†, then with constant repetition and enforcement, widespread belief and acceptance of this idea or practice will become the norm. A people that is consistently taught or treated a certain way may at some point begin to accept it â€Å"right.† However, in many cases what may be deemed â€Å"right† by some is not necessarily the â€Å"right† thing to do. This theory can not be any more prominent than in the case of African Americans, who have long endured hundreds of years of discriminator y practices based solely upon their race and origins. Dating back to the days of slavery, these are a people that out of prejudice, out of expectations, out of fear, have often come to view the white man’s way as the â€Å"right† way either by choice or by having no other choice. In the process, however, their very own culture, beauty, beliefs, traditions, etc., often get trampled upon or even forgotten as they either struggle to keep up or struggle to stay up. More then not, though, this â€Å"brainwashing† of sorts results in a â€Å"miseducation† of the African-American people that often leads to widespread misunderstandings about them. These misunderstandings can then lead to various forms of stereotypes aimed against African-Americans by whites or other non African Americans picked up along the way due to incomplete knowledge about their history which inherently also hurt those making these false assumptions. Times are changing, however, and wit h these evolutionary years comes a greater sense of struggle to understand. ... ...African Americans by white Americans must be thoroughly examined from both sides as they are equally deep-rooted among each group. In addition, I personally feel that with more and more of these investigations of the miseducation of the races can lead to a better understanding of each. It is not just the fact of the acknowledging the existence of miseducation that will help people to understand African Americans better and more realistically. It is up to both whites and blacks alike to make conscious efforts to ignore stereotypes and seek only truths in answering questions about the races. If the problem of miseducation is not properly addressed equally by all sides, the problem can never be fully understood or solved. Miseducation benefits no one. It harms all involved by spreading unsubstantiated opinions for norms or forcing actions based upon fear and ill will. Truth is hidden, and innocent people get hurt or mislead in the process. It is up to today’s younger g enerations of American citizens to wake up, realize the vast racial miseducation that currently exists, and start treating others with the dignity and respect earned automatically in their being born human beings.

Doing skills in everyday life allows us to meet our individual needs We can maintain support for our clients in their life by discussing their needs with them and how they wont to tackle them. I work in a unit for severe learning disabilities and we discuss with parents and the client what they would like to achieve Through the days we work with the clients for them to be able to fulfil their needs and activities. Working alongside them allows them to be able to complete their tasks themselves; this takes a more person centred approach. The clients also feel a sense of pride in what they have achieved and satisfaction. We could do the tasks for the clients and take away their choice it could lead to the clients having behaviour problems, also in the long term they will lose skills they have will not be able to learn or regain skills. 1. 2 Analyse reasons why individuals may need support to maintain, regain or develop skills for everyday life You may find that in different stages of life people will have different problems that affect skills for everyday life One of the clients I work with has autism and shows different variants during different times of the year At Christmas time his behaviour turned quite aggressive and everyday tasks took a lot long and needed a lot more support. He also needed the support to understand how the behaviour is not socially accepted. He attends college on a regular basis but as his social skills is quite limited because of his condition and during these times he requires more support from carers to be able to cope in the situation and carry on with the course he enjoys. As he is doing this on a regular basis and getting to know the people support is beginning to get less We also have to remind him about hygiene on a regular basis and are encouraging him to wash his own clothes and prepare his own food giving him the opportunity to live partially independently. At Christmas this skills were lost through his behaviour and he needed continual support to relearn them We also have clients that have physical disabilities as well as learning disabilities; to be able to develop skills for everyday life they require support. A lot go swimming and have learnt to swim but to be able to do this activity they need the support of carers to take them there and change them. 1. 3 Explain how maintaining, regaining or developing skills can benefit individuals In doing this it will help with the wellbeing of the individual. Physical wellbeing will mean the client is feed, are clean and tidy and this will lower the risk of infection making them healthy and happy. They will gain Psychological wellbeing which will give them increased confidence and will think better of themselves They gain emotional wellbeing; they will be happy and not have periods of depression Social wellbeing is something else that will be found they will be able to feel part of a community and belong By assisting in everyday tasks we are able to create a environment were the client has is happy and therefore promote wellbeing. 2. 3 Analyse possible sources of conflict that may arise When planning and ways to resolve them In our setting we share decision making with the individual and try to get them and their family included in the care and care planning. We do get problems sometimes however in the clients wishes and preferences. We have had an occurrence were an individual wanted to take apart appliances and put them back together again, this was dangerous to him and others around him, we did have to remove the appliances for his own safety. How ever since we have built up better relationships with him and learnt to understand his needs. He now goes to college on a course that allows him to do this. You may get individuals that want an activity that is not on their care plan or you might try to carry out something that the client does not want, these could result to a risk to the individual and others as the above example did. The best way to resolve this is by developing trusting relationships, mutual respect and negotiating other ways of doing things as we did with the college course. 3. 3 Describe actions to take if an individual becomes Distressed or unable to continue We do find that some of our clients become distressed during activities due to the nature of their problems. We can take a number of actions if this does occur We can offer reassurance to the person, communicating is important explaining that you understand and that they are safe. Praise their achievements in the task they are completing. We also have people on hand that can advise or assist in these situations. They one thing we always do is make sure the client is safe. We can also suggest to stop the activity with the client and take them away from the situation

How to Improve Services

Jonathan Swift’s poem, The Lady’s Dressing Room, is a comic satire that seeks to show readers the inescapable humanity – and its flaws and gory ugliness – that women have to live with no matter how hard they try to make themselves appear immaculately beautiful on the outside. It could be read as a criticism of the extreme efforts women do to make themselves beautiful, and as a criticism of the beholder, the man, who is enamored by the physical beauty only to realize the imperfections being hidden underneath that flawless exterior in the lady’s dressing room. The dressing room is where the transformation takes place – this is where the lady goes in simple and when she comes out she is a radiant beauty and men cannot help themselves. That is what the poem implies that is why the poem begins with a man, Strephon, who is enamored by Celia who takes at least five hours to prepare herself, sneaking in the dressing room to find out why, and discovers the horrors that goes on not only inside the room but also with his beloved Celia’s body beneath those laces and brocades. He discovers: first a dirty Smock appear'd, Beneath the Arm-pits well besmear'd. Strephon, the Rogue, display'd it wide, And turn'd it round on every Side. On such a Point few Words are best, And Strephon bids us guess the rest; But swears how damnably the Men lie, In calling Celia sweet and cleanly. That in fact, Celia is not as perfect as she seems – her clothes have perspiration and bad smell on them. hat follows next is a series of finding other items Celia uses to prepare herself – combs with dirt, dandruff and sweat, a piece of cloth with oil used to cover wrinkles, gloves made from Celia’s dog’s skin when it died, and various little jars filled with pomade, paint, ointments, all these used to cover her imperfections. Strephon even finds the discarded stockings that reveal stinking toes. No wonder that at the end of the poem, Strephon could no longer look straight at any woman, for his imagination always conjures the images he saw in the dressing roo m and saw their stinks, their flaws that they try so hard to hide. The narrator of the poem says that this is vengeance for his peeping, for if Strephon did no such thing then he could still be blessed when he sees beautiful women without knowing â€Å"such gaudy Tulips rais’d from Dung†. Hence this is the curse of the lady’s dressing room, that it took the magic and wonder for the beholder and made him see the woman as the imperfect creature masquerading to be a work of art. However, the dressing room is also a curse for Celia and all women, as it is the chamber where they feed their obsession to make themselves beautiful for men. In the poem the narrator mentioned â€Å"Celia’s magnifying Glass†, which is simply a mirror, but in this mirror everything was enlarged, that it can †¦to Sight disclose, The smallest Worm in Celia's Nose, And faithfully direct her Nail To squeeze it out from Head to Tail; For catch it nicely by the Head, It must come out alive or dead. — that it makes her so insecure to make her spend time to look for even the minutest flaws that no one would see anyway. The woman spends a minimum of five hours (perhaps an exaggerated figure, but the point is that women spend a large amount of time preening) and fails to see that real beauty comes from within, not on what is reflected by a piece of glass. The poem shows the readers an image of the preparation taken to make one look good outside but in so doing shows that perhaps it is nature’s way that makes it so difficult – that we should learn to appreciate each other and ourselves, flaws included, for we all have them. This is not to say to forgo hygiene, but merely to examine what activities we spend time on. The curse of the dressing room is that it makes us believe in the illusion that media sells us: the dream of that perfect skin, that Barbie body, that photoshopped face, that if we make up ourselves as long as we need to we can transcend our human bodies’ flaws. But we cannot, because all these are parts of what makes us who we are.

Yet the characterization that both authors place upon their female leads makes the novels appear similar in a deeper aspect. In Their Eyes Were Watching God, Zora Neal Hurston presents the reader with Janie a strong round and dynamic protagonist. In The Great Gatsby, F Scott Fitzgerald introduces us to Daisy a static and flat main character who is essential to the plot of the novel. Janie is an African American woman living in the South, who grew up during times racism was present and when females were oppressed and subjugated by men, and life for African Americans was very hard and difficult. Daisy is an upper class, east coast, socialite, who grows up in a time of change marked by the devastating traces that the Great War left behind, and surrounded by a world of sinful passions, immorality, jealousy, and ambition. As we examine both characters we discover that though they have many differences they are very much alike. Similarities Aspirations Samuel Johnson once said Some desire is necessary to keep life in motion. Janie and Daisy both had dreams and aspirations which became at a climatic point the reasons for their being. Janie longed to find true love and throughout the novel, Zora Neal Hurston, presented us with her journey in finding her true love which in the end became a journey of self discovery and appreciation. In the second chapter of Their Eyes Were Watching God, Janie often sits by a pear tree contemplating the horizon and her dreams. Daisy has dreams and aspirations as well. She dreams of a luxurious life style and a prominent and stable future that will secure her well being, as it is demonstrated when she chooses to not wait for Gatsby when he is sent to war and instead marries Tom Buchanan, who will fulfills her dreams and ambitions. Later another dream for Daisy will appear which will be getting together with Gatsby again and staring her life over. The dreams of the two women mold and shape the paths that their lives follow, as well as their outcomes and their relationships. Impact of Men Another similarity that we can understand from the novels is the fact that both characters are in a way mistreated and used by the men in their lives. Daisy who is sophisticated, graceful, charming and refined becomes the ideal trophy wife for Tom who controls the aspects of her life and knows how to manipulate through her weaknesses such as her ambition as it is represented in the scene where he convinces her into staying with him. Tom also cheats on Daisy and often ignores her. Janie has more to be talked about in this field. When she marries Logan Killicks, he demands that she work the land and dedicate her self to farming. After running away from him she becomes involved with Joe Starks, to whom she becomes a subjugated trophy wife whom he constantly oppresses with his insecurities by making her hide her hair and by whom she is physically and emotionally abused. Men do not only have a negative aspect in the lives of the two characters, they also bring joy and happiness to them. In the case of Daisy, Gatsby represents an adventurous love that rejuvenates her and gives her new reasons to persevere. He offers Daisy true love and fortune, along with a fresh start. Tea cake is to Janie, what Gatsby is for Daisy. He gives Janie hope and helps her in her path of self discovery. He unlike her other husbands treats her as his equal and truly appreciates not only her physical beauty but her internal beauty and teaches her how to appreciate the true beauty of life. Role of Women in Society It is also necessary for me to mention that both women had similar roles in society. Though they were form different social classes, races and eras, they both lacked a strong voice and figure in society as their rights were often overlooked and not taking into full consideration. They lacked equal status and opportunities to men and lived their lives under rigorous and strict patterns that affected the development of their individual voice, which is clearly reflected in both Janie and Daisy. At the time the stories were written at there were no rights for women and they had no institution that supported their cause. Differences Strength and Will Though the women may be similar in many aspects they are also very different in others. Janie is a strong woman. She has a set determination and tenacity to reach her dreams and overcome the obstacles in her way. In Their Eyes Were Watching God Daisy manages to not be affected by the negative comments made by her neighbors as she returns to Eatonville after the death of Tea Cake. She is willful enough to take off with Joe and then with Tea Cake and part ways into new adventures. She is also strong enough to resist the beatings that she receives from Joe and she manages to pass the intense trial she is put in for the death of Tea Cake. Daisy, on the other hand, is not as strong willed and determined as Janie. At points it is easy to compare her to a puppet, as she is constantly manipulated by her husband and always went for her ambition of wealth rather than her true happiness next to Gatsby. She is very gullible and often follows the guidance of others, instead of her own. Unlike Janie, Daisy does not preserve to achieve happiness. Physical Differences One of the most obvious differences between the two is their physical appearances. Janie is an African American older woman who in the beginning of Their Eyes Were Watching God is described to have a firm buttocks, beautiful long black hair and pugnacious breast. She communicates through dialect and wears overalls. Daisy is refined and carries her self as a lady. She is a bit dizzy and has vague and superficial thoughts. She is white, always has a bored look to her and is shallow. Expressions When it comes to showing their emotions and their feelings both women have different ways of doing it. Janie is the kind of person to be open and let all of her feelings show, while Daisy is more introverted with her feelings and sometimes it is questionable if she cares for any one other than her self such as the time when she doesnt even care for her daughter and treats her as an after thought. Janie seems to be very physical and more descriptive with her feelings as she shows them through her narrative. Daisy is really cold in all of her relationships and the way she interacts with other characters demonstrates her lack of ability to truly interact and make a strong and deep bond with the rest of the characters, other then the superficial and occasional encounters she has with her friends. Change One of the biggest differences that these characters have is the change that they go through throughout their novels. By definition Janie is a dynamic character, which means that she changes as a result of conflicts and revelations. She is also a round character who is multi dimensional and has sufficient depth to be understood. Janie goes through a transformation as she embarks on a journey of self discovery and comes to the conclusion that at the end it all comes down to conserving the beautiful memories in ones life. At the end of The Great Gatsby Daisy returns to right where she started, alone and rich but unhappy and miserable. She and Tom make and Nick states that people like them are meant to be together. By definition she would be described as a static character for she remains true to her initial introduction throughout the story. Janie is able to confront her aggressors as she stripped Joe in front of others and gain liberation to a certain extent from that experience, unfortunately Daisy does not. Conclusion Zora Neal Hurston and F. Scott Fitzgerald managed to create different yet similar female characters that embrace life and its ups and downs. The authors manage to present the reader with controversial characters that in one way or another break set standards. Janie and Daisy though very different, manage to mirror each other in deep aspects which are visible only to the critical eye.

Drama Comparison Essay I am going to compare the scenes in which we have studied for She Stoops to Conquer and Guys and Dolls, I am going to discuss the similarities and differences between the two chosen sections. The sections that I am going to discuss are Act 1 scene 2 in Guys and Dolls, and In She Stoops to Conquer the section between Marlow and Miss Hardcastle as a maid. The time period that Guys and Dolls by Damon Runyon is set is in the 1950s, New York, this is shown through the accents of the characters on stage and also through costumes. In this scene Sky would be wearing a full suit and Sarah would be wearing an old Salvation Army suit. This is vastly different then She Stoops to conquer by Oliver Goldsmith, which is set in the 18th century, in the English countryside. The period is conveyed through costume, Marlow would be wearing breeches, and a cravat, a short jacket with a tail underneath wearing a colourful waistcoat the men would have long hair tied back with a ribbon. Miss Hardcastle would be wearing a maids outfit in this section; this would be a long brown dress with long sleeves and a square neck front and would also be wearing a white apron. They also convey this through language, which is Shakespearian. Another difference between them is that Guys and Dolls is a Musical and She Stoops to conquer is a restoration comedy. There are some major similarities between these two sections one of these is that its between a guy and a girl, and in both the guys are going for the girls. Even though this is a major similarity the woman react in different ways. In She Stoops to conquer Miss Hardcastle is playing hard to get so actually does like Marlow but does not want him to take her to bed, whereas Sarah just does not like Sky and does not want to talk to him. Both of the girls reactions are similar in the way that they are both rude and talk back to the men, both woman are supposed to come through as being innocent. Another similarity is that it is both dramatic irony this is because in She Stoops everyone knows that the maid is actually Miss Hardcastle, and in Guys and Dolls everyone in the audience knows that Sarah and Sky are going to fall in love. The guys in both performances are bold, Sky asks Sarah to go to Havana with him and Marlow implies to Miss Hardcastle that he wants to go to bed with her. Both plays are also deceiving this is because Miss Hardcastle is pretending to be a maid to Marlow, and in Guys and Dolls Sky is only talking to Sarah because he has bet that he can take her to Havana. A difference between them is movement, in She Stoops to conquer the movements are very over exaggerated this is because at the time it was the fashion in theatre to do this, the audience would find these movements amusing and made the story easier to follow. In Guys and Dolls the movements are much more naturalistic in this scene and this also helps to convey the period. An example of over exaggerating in She Stoops is that when she meets Marlow for the first time she would do a big curtsy, but over the top this would be amusing for the audience because they would be able to see that she was trying too hard to act like a maid. A similarity between them too is that they both use the whole stage this is because in She Stoops the large movements make the actors use more space and in Guys and Dolls the actors use a lot of space because Sarah is almost trying to get away from Sky. The status of the characters is different, in She Stoops Marlow thinks that he has the higher status but Miss Hardcastle actually does I would show this by Marlow sitting down for quite a lot of it, showing he has a lower level. In Guys and Dolls the status changes at the start Sarah has the highest status but when she says Isaiah the status changes and Sky then has the higher status. The set is different in both sections because of the different periods and the contexts. In She Stoops I would set it out as in a small area I would use a similar idea as what I saw in the production Othello were the walls fluctuated according to the mood of the play. I think that this should be a very small space this would show intimacy towards the two characters. The furniture should be set out as rich 18th century home e.g. a chez lounge chair in deep red and oak tables. In Guys and Dolls I would have this in a big space this would show the emptiness of the room and also reflect how far Sky and Sarah were away from each other in class. The design of the room would be that with 10 rows of chairs and 5 seats horizontally across the front. The use of Lighting would be very different this is because in She Stoops it is older so the light would be in sepia, or the light dimmed like it was candlelight, this would convey the period and show that it was old. In Guys and Dolls the lights would be bright at colourful to show that it was exciting and have a happy mood. The Music in Guys and Dolls is similar in the way that it tells a part of the story, in She Stoops when we acted out when the music came on we would do movement to what would be happening next. The emotional impact of She Stoops is that the audience find it very amusing and there is tension because the audience do not know weather Miss Hardcastle will pull it off. In Guys and Dolls the audience find it funny because Sky is so persistent and will not take no for an answer this is similar because for both the audiences reaction should be to find it funny. In Conclusion I think that they are very similar and different in lots of ways they both have similar ideas about a boy trying to get a girl, but the way in which the girls react is different. The way in which I would set out each of the sections would be completely different because of the time period and the intensity of the characters. Overall they both use different techniques to show that they are different e.g. making gestures big.

Pagan Elements in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf    "I am preoccupied with history" George observes in Act I (p. 50) of Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. But his relationship with his wife, Martha, seems to lean almost towards anthropology. Pagan social and religious elements in Albee's work seem to clarify and enhance the basic themes of the play.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Pagan trappings adorn the whole structure of the play: the prevalence of alcohol, the "goddamn Saturday night orgies" (p. 7) Martha's father throws, Martha's identification as "the only true pagan on the eastern seaboard... [who] paints blue circles [of woad?] around her things" (p. 73) or "the Earth Mother" (p. 189), or George's injunction, in Old Testament language, to "just gird your blue-veined loins, girl" (p. 205). The stage seems set for religious ritual. Even the act titles have pagan religious significance. "Fun and Games" are of course the prelude to many a religious event, even in the Christian Easter and Christmas. "Walpurgisnacht" or "St. Walburga's Night" is the evening before May Day, when Christians claim witches and nightmares are on the roam. But May Day and the evening before is also the pagan Beltaine, a day of fertility rituals as the God and Goddess bring vitality and passion to Nature -- a maypole signifies masculine fertility; the flowers about it show feminine vitality ("flores para los muertos"? (p. 195)). And "The Exorcism" is a banishment of the spirit of evil, in the sacrifice of the imaginary child who has become a scapegoat bearing all George and Martha's sins. Martha tries to wield her power like an old-style matriarch, saying "I wear the pants in this house" (p. 157) and controlling Nick as a "houseboy" (p. 1... ...avior by sweeping away its very foundation, by changing her beloved son into the pagan scapegoat who bears away all the twisted, hateful history they have both constructed around him. The pagan elements in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? strengthen the main themes and plot of Albee's play. Martha's boisterousness and sexuality make her a sort of pagan priestess, but one trapped by the myths and illusions she has constructed in her worship. But George's Latin burial service at last banishes the restless spirit who had so haunted his relationship with Martha, and it bears away much of their tortured past, making a fresh slate. Samhain has been fulfilled: the God and Goddess begin again, to build a new, more fertile relationship between themselves for the new year. Definition: Mixed Branding is where a firm markets products under its own name and that of the reseller(s) because the segment attracted to the reseller is different than its own market. Eg. The company sells its Elizabeth Arden brand through department stores and a line of skincare products at Wal-Mart with the â€Å"Skinsimple† brand name. Stratergies: When promoting a brand, companies sometimes choose to follow a multiproduct branding strategy, similar to automakers Ford and Toyota. In this regard, a company’s name is an umbrella brand for all its products. Coca-Cola, Apple and Intel have focused their energies on branding their corporate names and images rather than individual products. Grocery chains and big-box retailers use private-label branding to attract value-conscious customers. Advantages: Companies use branding to differentiate their products based on value, quality and other attributes. A positive brand image creates a halo effect that affects existing products and makes it easier to introduce new products. The â€Å"Intel Inside† campaign, for example, was designed to brand all Intel microprocessors as high-performance and high-quality products. Apple has followed a somewhat different route because it relies on its corporate name and unique product brands. A mixed-branding strategy can leverage a company’s reputation for innovation to carve out profitable market niches, such as Apple’s Mac computers for graphics-intensive operations, while developing entirely new markets, examples of which would be iPods and iPads. Kraft consumers know they are getting a quality food product, which makes it easier and more cost-effective for Kraft to introduce and gain consumer acceptance for new products. Disadvantages: The main disadvantage of branding is the high advertising and related public relations costs. Establishing a local or international brand requires years  of sustained advertising, high levels of quality and exceptional customer service. A brand image and reputation cannot be established in a few weeks. Companies must continue their promotions even during economic downturns or when sales stagnate, because if they do not, competitors might fill the void and be in a better position when the economy turns around. These expenditures can reduce margins, especially if sales volumes are being affected by price competition or changing customer preferences. Also, there is the risk that poor customer service by wholesalers or retailers in the distribution channel might reflect poorly on the brand itself. Manufacturing issues that lead to product recalls, such as Toyota’s well-publicized problems with brakes from 2009 to 2011, can also affect a brand’s image, which usually requires additional expenditures to repair.

Themes of “The Crucible”

Themes of The Crucible While reading The Crucible, two strong themes are guilt and hypocrisy. This play by Authur Miller takes place in during the Salem Witch Trials in Massachusetts. The people involved were called Puritans. they had very strong beliefs such as â€Å"predestination†, and intolerance. When the trials began to come about, it caused great havoc in the small, puritan community. Although this play seemed to be such a serious series of events, after reading it one will soon notice that it is almost crossing a fine line of mockery.The themes that showed these traits pretty well were guilt and hypocrisy, which when looked at deeper bring out the extent of insanity throughout the play. These themes will begin to show how obvious and absurd the true motives actually are. The first theme, which is guilt, is initially shown very subtly but then towards the end of the play, gets to an extreme. Mr. Hale is the first character we really notice effected by this. During act t hree, he begins to feel personally responsible for the people he condemned to hang, as they begin to look innocent.He exclaims, â€Å"I have signed 72 death warrants, I am a minister of the lord†¦Ã¢â‚¬  (Miller, 1301). For the first time in the play, one of the characters actually says something to show their doubt, when everyone else is just constantly thinking and wondering if it could be true or not. Another character that show his guilt in this act is Danforth. He is the judge who have tried all of the suspects, and sentenced the majority of them to death. After two of the girls that were the basis for everyone's conviction skip town, Danforth begins to show his skepticism, but can not react. e understands clearly not that there is a strong possibility that the girls were lying, but still refuses to change his decision. After sentencing possibly innocent people to hang, his guilt can not empower him to do things to attempt to justify his previous actions. When Reverend Pa rris tries to postpone the rest of the hangings, Danforth tells him, â€Å"There will be no postponement† (miller, 128). Although one might take this as confidence in his past judgments, he really does this because he feels there is no other option after killing innocent people.The next theme there are some very interesting qualities to is hypocrisy. This theme also ranges from subtle to extreme throughout the play, but hypocrisy is shown a little differently. One example involves the general group of puritans as a whole, and their beliefs. It is made clear that they think its only right for a child to speak when spoken to, but during the entire play the puritans seems to hang on a group of children's words. they are not only listening to them, but killing innocent adults in result of it.During act II, one of the characters says, â€Å"The voice of heaven is speaking through the children. † (Miller, 1294) This sentence clearly states that what the children are telling them are extremely important, must be heard, and must be believed. Another character who shows hypocrisy throughout the play is Parris. He originally acts authoritative and powerful as he tries to pursued the court toward witch craft. Eventually he becomes weak and begs the court to reconsider for his own greed and name.Early in the play, Parris says to Dantforth, â€Å"He's come to over throw the court, your honor! † (Miller, 92), referring to Proctor when he brings a deposition to free innocent people. At the end of act three, the same man, Parris, goes back to the court and tells them, â€Å"Tonight, when i open my door to leave my house – a dagger clattered to the ground. you cannot hang this sort. there is danger for me†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (miller, 128). This statement shows how Parris now is trying to protect himself, and needs to try to justify the previous decisions.For a more general example of hypocrisy, there is one that involves the entire plot of the play. The g oals of the puritans are to keep their community together, but now after dragging out the trials, the have ripped Salem apart. After reading this play, it is clearly evident that there are always underlying motives to peoples' actions. this is shown not only through these examples but the entire dialog. This book was very interesting, and really held my interest compared to other pieces of literature previously read in english classes.

The role of the HRM is so much more complex and important in the international context because they have to find employees to merge the local with the global. They have to find people who understand the company and are willing to relocate to share this knowledge with others. They are also challenged with finding local people who can help grow the company. The HRM is responsible for recruiting, training and compensating skilled employees. They have to understand the local laws, culture and what they practice. Explain the common causes of expatriate failure. What are the major success factors for expatriates? Explain the role and importance of each. The causes of expatriate failure include: poor selection based on inappropriate criteria, inadequate preparation before assignment, alienation from headquarters, inability of manager or family to adapt to local environment, inadequate compensation package, and poor programs for career support and repatriation. The executive power of the Union shall be vested in the President and shall be exercised by him either directly or through officers sub-ordinate to him in accordance with this Constitution.(Constitution of India, retrieved 2007) The extent of the Executive Power of the Union is given by the following clauses - Extent of executive power of the Union.- (1) Subject to the provisions of this Constitution, the executive power of the Union shall extend- (a) to the matters with respect to which Parliament has power to make laws; and (b) to the exercise of such rights, authority and jurisdiction as are exercisable by the Government of India by virtue of any treaty or agreement: Provided that the executive power referred to in sub-clause (a) shall not, save as expressly provided in this Constitution or in any law made by Parliament, extend in any State to matters with respect to which the Legislature of the State has also power to make laws.
